When you think of San Salvador Downtown you imagine what the media says that is a dangerous place to visit...

But that has changed after the restoration of the San Salvador Downtown more specifically in the Centro Historico district.

The mini Historical district in San Salvador Downtown has seen many restaurants and Cafes open in the last couple of years.

In this post, I would like to show the coolest ones in San Salvador Downtown for you to enjoy a cafe and then have a walk and visit the landmarks like the National Palace, Rosario Church, Metropolitan Cathedral, Plaza Libertad, and National Theater to mention some of them.

Here I have the 7 Cool Restaurants and Cafes in San Salvador Downtown:

1 Coffe Tempo

Coffee Tempo offers a variety of coffee drinks as well as various dishes to have lunch or dessert with your coffee. Cafe Tempo is at the cross street of Delgado Street and 2nd South Avenue and it is a few steps away from National Teather.

During weekends you can enjoy live music in Cafe Tempo.

2 Cafe Fulanos

Fulanos was among the first cafes to open its doors following the restoration of the San Salvador Historical District. They provide an extensive selection of desserts and coffee beverages for you to relish in a delightful environment. Located on 2nd South Avenue, Fulanos is situated across from the National Theater (Teatro Nacional). As you make your way there, you'll also have the chance to encounter numerous street artists.

3 Kilometro Cero

Kilometro Cero is another recent addition to San Salvador Downtown. The owners have painstakingly restored a house on Delgado Street, which is in close proximity to the area known as Zero Kilometer, where all the streets of El Salvador originate. Zero Kilometer is situated on Cuscatlán Avenue and is slated for restoration as part of the second phase of the Historic Downtown project.

Kilometro Cero is a Grill and Bar Restaurant where you can savor Salvadorean beers like Pilsener or Regia, along with a selection of Salvadorean dishes. It's the perfect place to relish authentic Salvadorean cuisine and beverages.

4 Mori's Rooftop

Mori's Rooftop is located on the top floor of a building at the intersection of Delgado Street and 2nd South Avenue. It's important to note that the building does not have elevators, so visitors must be in good shape, as they will need to ascend using ramps between each floor.

Once you reach the rooftop, you'll be treated to breathtaking views of the Historic District. From there, you can see the back of the Metropolitan Cathedral as well as the National Theater.

Mori's Rooftop offers a diverse menu with a range of dishes, including pizza, french fries, and more. They also have a variety of beers available, including many local options, featured on their menu.

5 Club La Dalia

La Dalia Club is a place that recently celebrated its 82nd anniversary. It is now a well-known spot for playing pool and having drinks, thanks to the restoration of the Historic District.

La Dalia is located in front of Plaza Libertad, on the corner of 2nd West Street and 4th North Avenue. It is a beautiful building with Art Nouveau architecture, with most of the original construction dating back to 1917.

When La Dalia first started, it was one of the most exclusive commercial areas in San Salvador in the early 20th century. It was also home to the Spanish Club. By the end of the 1930s, the Spanish Club had disbanded, and the Pool Club La Dalia began to take shape.

Being there feels like stepping into the history of San Salvador, while also enjoying great views of Plaza Libertad and the opportunity to have a beer and play pool.

You can also appreciate the stunning views from the club and immerse yourself in its rich history. On one of the walls, you will find pictures of many notable personalities who attended parties during the Golden Age of La Dalia. Salvadoran writers like Claudia Lars and Salarrue frequented La Dalia, and there is a photo of Pedro Infante during his visit.

Some individuals in the pictures remain unidentified, but according to a staff member, efforts are ongoing to determine the names of others who enjoyed their time at La Dalia.

6 Le Cafe Restaurant

There are two Le Cafes located in the Historic District. One is situated on Cuscatán Avenue, directly across from the Zero Kilometer marker, while the other is located in front of 2nd South Avenue.

The Le Cafe on 2nd South Avenue offers picturesque views of Plaza Gerardo Barrios and the National Palace. It was the first to open in the area and has gained popularity for its wide selection of coffee beverages and desserts, all at an affordable price

7 Café Luz Negra

Last but not least, Cafe Luz Negra is over Delgado St and next to the National Theater. They offer breakfast for you to start your day at Historic District.

You can also have other kinds of meals like lunch and then have a coffee with a delicious dessert.

I hope you have enjoyed these 7 Cool Restaurants and Bars at San Salvador Downtown.

Let me know if you would like to know other gastronomical options in this area or in San Salvador.
