Even though there is a deal or no deal after the BREXIT. UK citizens will have to apply for ETIAS in 2021 like the rest of the visa-free countries.
UK travelers who would like to visit the EU's Schengen zone on 2021 will have to apply to the ETIAS confirmed by the European Commission last December.
What is ETIAS?
ETIAS is the European Travel Information and Authorisation System that is expected to come into force in 2021.
Currently, UK citizens as part of the European Union are able to travel anywhere in the EU. But a non-EU country has to apply for a visa unless they become part of the special list of 61 countries, which also includes the US, Australia, and Japan.
The citizens of these 61 countries can travel short stay (90 days in any 180 days) without a visa and with no border checks within the EU's Schengen Zone.
This is going to be introduced as a result of the security concerns over terrorism and the migrant crisis.
ETIAS is the European version of the United States ESTA which is $14, but the ETIAS will be 7 € which is cheaper than the American one. Will be required either there is a deal or no deal after BREXIT.
The form to apply for the ETIAS which the EU describes as:
"Necessary and small procedural step"
The process takes no more than 10 minutes and anyone from 18 to 70 must pay the fee.
The details needed for the application will include passport information as well as background questions about criminal records and medical conditions.
Most of the people fill out the application successfully within minutes, with more than 95% of the applications approved automatically.
However, the applications can be denied or take up to four weeks to process.
In a successfully approved ETIAS, this will last 3 years and allow an unlimited number of entries. The document will be checked by border guards when crossing the EU border.
What will happen with the EU citizens when traveling to the UK after BREXIT?
According to the Independent in February the UK has confirmed that EU citizens will be able to make short-term visits to the UK visa-free after the BREXIT takes place.
The visa exemption is granted on a condition of reciprocity says the EU. The UK government has stated that doesn't intend to require a visa from EU citizens traveling to the UK for short stays.
